Alistair
I worked in various jobs in production in the brewing industry for 20 years before moving on to scientific services in the water industry which is my current occupation.
Having seen May's fused glass art work coming through from Carole Robinson's classes, then from our own kiln, I decided to use some of my free time and have a try creating fused glass pieces myself. Carole's classes kick started my imagination in this fascinating medium. I enjoy the challenge of producing small jewellery pieces such as glass earrings, where surface tension affects shaping of the glass, making the production of two near identical pieces trickier. I also enjoy trying to make non-abstract pieces for glass pendants with angelfish, butterflies and beetles in dichroic glass among some of my creations.
I love experimenting with the glass - with varying degrees of success. Projects to date have included a landscape picture made into a fused glass bowl and a cribbage board. I am always on the lookout for new ideas to develop.
When not doing the day job or glasswork, my relaxation sees me hill walking (bagging the odd Munro or Corbett in the passing) and photographing the scenery en route.
